The Font, a marble copy of a Grecian Vase was first used to baptise Adelaide Scamp, the daughter of the Architect.
It holds a Latin inscription showing it was presented in 1844 by John William Bowden a close friend of cardinal Newman. In 1948 a wooden lid was added when it was moved to its present position in the Apse, and the stone baldacchino was constructed over the font ![]() |
